The Plum Mustangs entered Saturday’s contest in West Mifflin undefeated on the season. They left with their first loss of the year. The comeback victory improved the Titans to (8-1) (3-1) on the season. However, it was not easy for the Titan ladies.
The Titans fell behind early in the game when back to back doubles led to a 2-0 Plum lead. The girls got one back in the third with a little two out magic. With two down, Jaden Arcuri walked, stole second, and scored on a double by Isabella Farmer, cutting the Plum lead to 2-1.
That score did not last long however, as Plum added on three more runs to their lead with a 3-run home run in the top of the 4th inning to make it 5-1. That would be all the runs Plum would get though on the day as Senior, Annie Modrick would hold them scoreless over the final three innings.
Allyssa Schmidt went deep in the bottom of the 4th inning to get one back for the Titans to cut the deficit to 5-2. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the 7th inning.
Senior, Casey Bornak got the rally started in the bottom of the seventh inning with single. A pop up and a strikeout later, and the Titans were down to their final out.
Bornak advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when Lauren Yuhas hit a screamer back thru the middle that couldn’t be handled by the Plum pitcher. Jaden Arcuri then walked on a full count, moving Yuhas to second. Isabella Farmer promptly doubled with a shot down the third base line scoring Yuhas and Arcuri. Farmer advanced to third when the throw home to get Arcuri skipped passed the Plum catcher. Emma Mackulin then drove a ball to deep center field which drove the Plum center fielder back to the fence, but she couldn’t make the catch and the lady Titans had a walk-off 6-5 win over the 5A #5 ranked Plum Mustangs!
The girls will be back in action on Monday when they host the Ringgold Rams at 4:00 PM. The game will be broadcast live by the Pittsburgh Tribune Review High School Sports Network.
